Writing comes first...

OK, I haven’t exactly stuck to the daily writing word count I set myself only a couple of weeks ago. It’s not that I don’t have the time. For once in my life I actually do. I’m sat here waiting for number one baby to arrive, well not imminently. The thing is, I always thought I’d be a proper full-time author by the time that major life-changing event happened but as yet… Still, I have until mid-May. If I can just get my current manuscript finished, sent off to an agent who’ll immediately love it, and find me a great publishing deal then everything will be on track. No harm in being ambitious, right? <a href="http://getoninwriting.wordpress.com/2011/02/07/writing-comes-first/"target="_blank"> Read more.

Goal for 2011 – Get on in Writing for Children

The name of our blog and our goal for 2011 are one in the same – Get on in Writing for Children!

Now, if I could just get rid of that annoying little man who sits on my shoulder as I type telling me that every word I write is rubbish and every character is bland I’m certain that progress towards that goal would be faster.

My target for January was to finish the first draft of the children’s novel I’m writing which I started, oh, about this time last year. So far in 2011 I’ve written 2,000 words. Dismal progress, yes I’m aware of that – and although blame is unattractive – I really hold the man sitting on my shoulder with the whiny voice responsible. The one who tells me I’d be better off focusing on something else that I’d surely be better at. Read more

Whether you're just putting the finishing touches to your perfectly honed manuscript or just beginning your first draft make sure you get yourself a copy of Writers' and Artists' Yearbook 2011.

This is the only book you'll need to find an agent or publisher. Plus it includes lots of useful advice about getting published.

You can pick it up from Amazon for £8.69 or any other book shop worth its salt. If you're watching the pennies make sure to add it to your Christmas list.

Here's hoping you won't need the 2012 edition. Good luck.
